Things I’ll mention here apply to any profession at any time. It will help you to grow no matter if you’re an experienced manager or still a student.

1. Learn how to manage your personal finance.

Living at the level you cannot afford is immaturity.

This year has been tough.

If you were prepared and got some financial reserves — good. If not then think about how you can improve.

Think about the long-term goal.

Prepare your plan.

Execute it. Do not hurry. Set your own pace. But keep in mind what you want to achieve.

It will help you to sleep better, be prepared for any situation but also can help you to negotiate better and make more brave choices.

2. Write for yourself.

You should have a blog or a private notebook.

Write there about your days, hobbies or business ideas.

First of all, it will help you to communicate better.

Secondly, your notes may deliver value for you or others.

Think about how to deliver your thoughts clearly. At work be a volunteer that can write down some meeting minutes.

You won’t notice when you will be invited to C-level meetings that can bring new opportunities for your career.

3. Improve your soft skills.

Learn a few soft skills at a decent level and the rest of them at a basic level.

You can start with the ones in demand.

Listening, negotiation, persuasion, presentation, public speaking, pitching, reading body language might be a good place to start.

Think about how you can make a difference in your workplace. Pay attention to what successful employees around you do.

If you get familiar with the basics move to storytelling which is making a huge difference in the XXI century.

4. Think critically.

Contest everything you see or listen to. Create your own opinions on some topics.

Don’t believe gurus just because they say so.

Have your own mind. Evaluate content that gets into your mind.

It will save you from putting your clients or company into trouble.

5. Learn at least two foreign languages.

The ability to speak only English is not enough anymore.

Emerging markets require to speak their language.

If you’re able to do so, you will be more likely to speak to a client or cooperate with them closer.

Before we will have real-time translations knowing the language is crucial.

You have two choices. You can go easy and learn Spanish which is considered to be the most popular language on the earth. Or try to learn Chinese which is more and more popular in the business context.

Your network will be bigger therefore you will encounter more opportunities.

These are 5 abilities that you can try to incorporate into your 2021 plans. I wish you all the best and let me know how it goes by tagging me on Twitter or Linkedin.
